Associate Degree in Nursing
The Associate Degree in Nursing provides students with an academic foundation in nursing on top of clinical experience. As students move through the rigorous curriculum, they are supported by attentive professors in both the classroom and small clinical group settings and they are mentored by a nursing faculty advisor. Students quickly receive hands-on experience, starting their clinicals after the first month of classes. Upon completion of the Associates Nursing Degree program, students are eligible to take the Registered Nurse Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) in order to begin providing direct care to patients and become a licensed RN. Most graduates pursue the Bachelor of Science degree program at Gwynedd-Mercy College and the Associate of Science in Nursing is articulated with the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program which requires the equivalent of two years of either full-time or part-time study.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing
The School of Nursing has long enjoyed a reputation for excellence of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. The BSN degree, which prepares graduates to meet complex patient and family needs, is the educational requirement of the 21st century. Numerous healthcare and nursing organizations have asserted the need for a more educated nursing workforce. The BSN degree enables the student to acquire highly sophisticated knowledge and skill focusing on quality care that is evidenced-based, interdisciplinary and patient-centered. A BSN graduate, educated within the rich heritage of the liberal arts and Mercy heritage, is grounded with a comprehensive understanding of the human condition. Clinical experiences in a variety of community settings expand the student’s knowledge and relationship skills. Nurses can complete the BSN program as a full time or part time student with classes available during the day or evening hours.

RN-BSN
As the Bachelor Degree in Nursing is increasingly required for employment in nursing, this RN to BSN program makes graduates even more highly marketable. Students with an Associate’s degree quickly adjust to this program’s demands, finding that the additional two years of clinical experience deepen their knowledge of the field. Clinical rotations typically take place in a non-hospital setting and stress the importance of community in healthcare. Students have received direct care experience at patients’ homes, local school districts, and health departments. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program especially caters to the needs of working students by allowing them to attend part-time and take classes in the evening.

Master of Science in Nursing

For example, MSN students have written grants which have been funded; published articles in refereed journals; been co-participators in faculty-student research, and have served as adjunct clinical faculty in the baccalaureate nursing program. Graduates are professionals and educators who have achieved responsible positions in education and health institutions. In addition to the MSN program, Holy Family offers two post-master’s certificates – a certificate in nursing education and one in nursing administration.

Once in the program, RN students may take both online and face-to-face courses depending on individual needs.

Master of Science in Nursing
In designing the 33-credit nurse educator track, the faculty's goal was to design a curriculum based on nursing theory, learning theory, and education and research principles to produce nurse educators who are effective in both the classroom and clinical areas. It was with this goal in mind that the program learning outcomes were designed based on the NLN's Core Competencies for Nurse Educators (2005). When designing the nurse administrator/leader track, we chose to follow the Nursing Administration: Scope and Standards of Practice (2009). The nurse administrator curriculum has an interdisciplinary focus with a foundation in nursing theory, leadership and management theory, organizational change theory, and organizational ethics with a strong emphasis on application of these principles in the two nursing administration courses. The Organizational Leadership Masters in Arts program offers four introductory courses. The content of these courses is foundational administration/leadership in multiple disciplines.
