Associate of Science in Nursing
Graduates of the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (AASN) program meet the requirements set by the New Mexico State Board of Nursing to take the NCLEX-RN licensing examination. Specific terms of licensure can be obtained through the New Mexico Board of Nursing. Nursing courses emphasize a holistic approach to client care utilizing the concepts of communication, critical thinking/nursing process, caring and competence. The curriculum for this program includes classroom, laboratory, and supervised clinical instruction which integrate the required arts and sciences courses with the nursing courses.


LPN-RN
This program allows qualified licensed practical nurses to complete their Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (AASN) by entering into the third term of the Nursing (AAS), Nursing Concentration (last application being accepted September 2013) program. Graduates of the program meet the requirements set by the New Mexico State Board of Nursing to take the NCLEX-RN licensing examination. Associate of Science in Nursing
To ensure timely graduation with an Associate Degree in Nursing, the program is currently designed for full time attendance over a two year period in order to complete all nursing coursework and requirements. Program coursework will include theory, laboratory and clinical learning experiences. Nursing classes are delivered face to face on the DACC Central Campus with clinical participation completed in the surrounding communities. LPN
This certificate program provides an exit option for those desiring to begin working as licensed practical nurses before finishing the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program. The certificate curriculum consists of the first two semesters of the ADN program, followed by a 6-credit Maternal/Child Nursing course. In addition, students wishing to apply for their LPN certificate must successfully pass a PN exit exam chosen by the program.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Our dynamic undergraduate and graduate programs provide a wide variety of options for the beginning and advanced nursing student. Over the past 5 years, our programs have expanded and changed to offer more degree plans in both the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as the delivery of many of our courses now fully online. Our geographical location along the United States Mexico Border and our diverse student population provides all students with outstanding clinical experiences-acute care and community based. Our baccalaureate and master degree programs in the School of Nursing are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).


RN-BSN
The program allows RNs to receive credit for past academic and nursing course work and to practice in a varied healthcare setting. The curriculum is designed to be completed in approximately one year of full-time study, after completion of general education requirements. New Mexico State University requires 128 credits for graduation with a bachelor’s degree, 48 of which must be upper division. New students are admitted once a year and begin classes during the first summer session. Students complete course assignments online. All students are introduced to the technology through a 1-2 day onsite mandatory orientation and are offered technical support through the School of Nursing throughout the semester. It is essential to have a computer with internet service to access the online courses and complete assignments.


Master of Science in Nursing
The MSN curriculum provides students with the knowledge and experience to assume leadership positions in overall health care delivery and fulfill the fundamental requirements to secure middle and top-level administrative positions in health care agencies. The School of Nursing at New Mexico State University offers the MSN Administration degree option and the Roadrunner MSN degree option.


Doctor of Nursing Practice
In place of the other three Master’s degree specialties, the School of Nursing offers the Doctor of Nursing Practice. The DNP is a doctoral degree for nurses at the highest level of nursing practice. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) has proposed that the DNP degree will be the level of entry for all advanced practice nurses by 2015. Practice-focused doctoral nursing programs prepare leaders for the highest level of practice and is the terminal practice degree.


PhD in Nursing
New Mexico State University School of Nursing online PhD program prepares graduates to pursue careers as leaders in nursing research, education, practice, and/or health policy. The Nursing Curriculum at NMSU-A provides educational preparation leading to the Associate Degree in Nursing. The nursing curriculum of New Mexico State University at Carlsbad prepares students for beginning nursing practice in a variety of health care settings. Upon successful completion of the first year nursing courses (level I), students may opt to take two additional nursing courses (NURS 116L and NURS 119) and receive a Practical Nurse Certificate. Students are then eligible to take the PN National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN). Students may exit the program at this time or continue on with second year nursing courses (level II).


Associate Degree in Nursing
Upon successful completion of the second-year nursing courses (level II) students receive either an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing or an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing and are eligible to take the RN licensure exam (NCLEX-RN). Graduates of the ADN program are prepared to continue toward completion of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at a four-year college or university.

Associate of Science in Nursing
The UNM-Gallup nursing program is an Associate Degree program with full approval from the New Mexico Board of Nursing through December 2015. Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to take the national exam (NCLEX-RN) for RN licensure. Up to 28 qualified students are accepted into the program in January and August. Applications are accepted in the nursing department until the last Friday in October and May for admission the following semester. Prerequisites are to be completed at the time of application. An admission exam is administered to all applicants and admission is based on prerequisite grades as well as performance on the entrance exam. The nursing program consists of four semesters of nursing courses.

LPN-RN
Admission with Advanced Standing is an LPN to RN program, which is limited to students who hold a current license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in New Mexico or a Multi-state Licensure Compact State. Students transferring from another nursing program may also qualify to enter with advanced standing. The number of students who may be admitted with advanced standing is dependent on available space within the second year of the program. Students who apply for admission with advanced standing must have transfer credit for and/or have successfully completed the General Education and Supporting Course Requirements.


RN-BSN
The RN to BSN program at Western New Mexico University started during Fall semester, 2005. The program is designed for the working nurse and is fully accredited by CCNE. Applicants to the BSN program must have a current RN license. All RN-BSN nursing courses are online as are many of the general education classes. It is possible to complete the BSN program in two years . The curriculum is designed to address contemporary issues in nursing. Students are encouraged to explore increasingly complex roles in nursing in and out of the hospital, in order to enhance critical thinking skills. There is a practicum component which requires 135 hours in Community Health Nursing, which can be accomplished in the community where you live.
