Bachelor of Science in Nursing
BSN students are trained professionals prepared to deliver excellent care to patients in a wide variety of settings. All undergraduates in the School of Nursing at the Bryan College of Health Sciences participate in unparalleled hands-on experience early in their studies, completing 1,200 clinical hours by graduation, training with state-of-the-art equipment-including our Human/Patient Simulators and Skills Labs-studying with committed faculty and working alongside outstanding healthcare professionals at the Bryan Health Medical Center-one of the most renowned healthcare organizations in the Midwest.


RN-BSN
As licensed professionals, Registered Nurses automatically earn 36 credit hours as they work toward completing the 64 nursing major credit hours required for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree-and they may also apply real-world clinical experience toward the remaining 28 hours of credit in the major. Students enrolled in the RN to BSN Hybrid Completion Option earn their Bachelor's degree by completing an additional 64 credit hours of academic coursework outside of the Nursing major. Nursing courses are offered in a hybrid format with only three on-campus meetings over the course of the term. Students with clinical practice experience in the workplace can apply for portfolio validation towards the clinical portion of the 28 nursing credit hours. Master of Science in Nursing (Nurse Educator)
A graduate degree in nursing with an education focus opens doors to multiple career options. Associate Degree in Nursing
The Associate Degree Nursing Program (ADN) is a comprehensive educational program. The sequence of theory and clinical courses allows for progression of knowledge and skills essential for the graduate to take the NCLEX-RN. Upon successful passing of the licensure examination, the individual can enter into practice as a registered nurse in a variety of settings. The program is offered at the Grand Island Campus. In addition, the first year of the program and the nursing block clinical rotations can be completed at the Columbus Campus or Kearney Center. The Practical Nursing Program (PN) provides the common body of knowledge and skills essential for the practical nurse’s entry into practice. Upon completion of the diploma program, the graduate is eligible to take the NCLEX-PN. After successfully passing the licensure examination, the individual can enter into practice as a licensedpPractical nurse. Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Our BSN Traditional program is designed for beginning or transfer college students. Undergraduate students are admitted directly into the Creighton University College of Nursing their freshman year and need not reapply once accepted.


Accelerated BSN
The BSN Accelerated program is a rigorous one-year option designed for students who have already completed a non-nursing undergraduate or graduate degree.


Master of Science in Nursing

Doctor of Nursing Practice

LPN-RN
The Associate Degree Nursing program is a three-quarter program for the currently licensed PN. The program provides classroom instruction, laboratory experience and clinical practice to prepare the student for the role of the registered nurse.


LPN
This 11-week course combines classroom instuction and laboratory experience to prepare the LPN to perform those duties consistent with the expanded Scope of Practice as outlined in Title 172, Chapter 102 of the State of Nebraska guidelines. Upon successful completion of this course, the LPN will be eligible for examination for certification by the Nebraska Board of Nursing.


Practical Nurse
The Practical Nursing program at Metropolitan Community College is a one-year, certificate program that combines classroom instruction, laboratory experience and clinical practice to prepare you to care for patients in a variety of settings. Successful graduates of the PN program may continue their nursing education and earn their Associate of Science in Nursing degree to become a Registered Nurse.

Associate Degree in Nursing
Associate Degree Nursing (ADNR) classes start in August. An acceptance form will be sent to those applicants admitted; this form must be returned by the specified deadline to secure a position in the next available class. Some applicants may be selected as alternates. If a position becomes available in the class the alternate will be asked to fill the position. The nursing program is designed to prepare students for employment as registered nurses. The practitioner will develop entry level skills and is eligible to take the NCLEX-RN: National Council (of State Boards of Nursing) Licensing Examination-Registered Nurses. The program meets the requirements for accreditation by the Bureau of Examining Boards, Board of Nursing of the State of Nebraska. Mid-Plains Community College is fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, a member of the North Central Association. The Associate Degree in Nursing Program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission**. Advanced placement for LPNs is available. LPN
The Practical Nursing Education Program is a selective admission program. Approval for admission will be granted by the Practical Nurse Educators. Admission requirements must be met before acceptance into the program. The MSN program is open to two career paths: those who have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN to MSN) and those who are Registered Nurses (RN to MSN). The Nebraska Wesleyan University Post Masters Certificate in Nursing program prepares nurses and nurse practitioners having an MSN degree to be a Nurse Educator or a Nurse Leader. With an MSN degree and the Post Masters Certificate in Nursing, you can work in research, public health, and advanced levels of nursing administration, as well as a nurse educator.

All students accepted into the program who successfully complete the first two semesters receive a diploma in practical nursing and may opt to take the NCLEX-PN exam for licensure. Associate Degree in Nursing
SCC's program is available part time or full time, with two quarters of prerequisite courses and five quarters of nursing core courses. It will prepare you for a career as a Registered Nurse. The intensive curriculum contains math, chemistry, microbiology, anatomy, physiology, and other general education courses as an essential foundation for the nursing core courses. All tuition, fees, books, required tools, and related costs are the responsibility of the student. SCC's ADN program is approved by the Nebraska State Board of Nursing and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, 61 Broadway St., New York, NY 10006, 212-812-0390, www.nlnac.org. Practical Nursing
The Practical Nursing program offers concentrated basic study and laboratory practice in nursing fundamentals. The program teaches students the concepts, principles, skills, and attitudes needed to become practical nurses who can work with patients throughout the life-span. Students will gain knowledge in medical-surgical, maternal-child, and geriatric nursing. Faculty facilitate clinical experience in area health care agencies. Students will have hands-on clinical experience in a variety of health care facilities. SCC instructors provide close supervision and guidance in the clinical settings. The program is approved by the Nebraska State Board of Nursing and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission. Graduates are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination and become licensed practical nurses by successfully passing the exam. After licensure, LPNs work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, long-term care, clinics and home health care. For students interested in advanced study, SCC transfer agreements with public and private four-year colleges and universities allow the transfer of SCC credits. However, if students know the institution to which they will transfer, it is their responsibility to check with an appropriate advisor at the four-year school to determine the best course selection for transfer.

Eligible licensed practical nurses (LPN) with an active nursing license enter the Nursing Program as second-step students to complete the BSN. Applicants with disciplinary action on their nursing licenses are not eligible for Nursing Program admission.


RN-BSN
Diploma and associate degree registered nurses (RNs) may progress in the baccalaureate nursing program on a part-time or full-time basis. Each applicant is individually evaluated for placement in the program as space is available. Tuition scholarships are given to eligible individuals licensed in Nebraska reducing the cost. Students are not generally eligible for other institutionally funded aid, scholarships, or discounts.
