Associate Degree in Nursing
The Department of Associate Degree Nursing, established in 1977, is approved by the State of Mississippi Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning and Accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. The Associate Degree Nursing curriculum is designed to prepare graduates who are competent to function as entry level registered nurses.


Bachelor of Science in Nursing
The Department offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Degree with two program options, Upper Division BSN and RN to BSN. Curricula are designed to prepare graduates to practice professional nursing in diverse health/illness settings and to provide a foundation for continuing education and life-long learning. After completion of the plan of study for the Upper Division Program Option, students are eligible to write the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN)®.


Graduate Nursing Programs
FNP NE MSN
The Department of Graduate Nursing provides learning opportunities for baccalaureate nursing graduates to extend their knowledge and skills in nursing and to develop a functional role as either family nurse practitioner or nurse educator. The program focuses on the educational preparation of advanced practice nurses who can make significant contributions to the improvement of healthcare of diverse individuals, families, groups, and communities with special emphasis on rural communities. The curriculum is designed to provide a sequential plan of study in two program options: family nurse practitioner (FNP) and nurse educator (NE) which lead to the Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree. Two Post-Master's Certificate Program Options are also offered: Family Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Educator. The Nurse Educator Program Option is offered primarily through distance education. All plans of study may be pursued full-time. Graduate students who successfully complete the Family Nurse Practitioner Program Option or the Post-Master's Certificate Program Option are eligible to write a national nurse practitioner certification examination.

LPN-RN
The LPN/RN Fast Track consists of 30 semester hours of general education courses, one summer term and 2 semesters of nursing courses. Students are exposed to clinical experiences which include direct patient care and clinical simulations. Associate of Science in Nursing
The Associate Degree Nursing (A.D.N.) Program at Copiah-Lincoln Community College began in the Fall of 1994. Each Spring applicants are screened for admission and a new freshman class ranging from 50 - 60 students starts each Fall. The program is a two year (four semester) program and awards the Associate in Applied Science Degree in Nursing.

This care is performed under the direction of a registered nurse, licensed physician, or dentist. Students that complete the program requirements will be eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). The State Board of Nursing may refuse any individual the right to take the NCLEX-PN based on previous criminal records.

LPN-RN
Option I offers a twelve-month program for LPNs who take transition courses in the summer, enter the generic program at the sophomore level in August, and complete the program the following May.
Option II offers a slower paced avenue to LPNs who take nursing theory courses in the fall and spring of the first year and enter the generic program at the sophomore level in August of the second year and complete the program the following May.

THE PROGRAM: The Practical Nursing program at Itawamba Community College is accredited by the State Board for Community and Junior Colleges. Students are trained in basic science and nursing skills necessary for rendering safe patient care in a variety of health care settings. Skills that are in the job descriptions of a LPN include, but are not limited to, administration of medication by mouth and injections, dressing changes, urinary catheterization, tracheotomy care and suctioning, venipuncture for blood specimen collection, assisting physicians with procedures and patient education. Associate Degree in Nursing
The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) option includes one semester of pre-requisites and four semesters of nursing course work. The ADN program is designed to prepare students to become registered nurses. After successful completion of Semesters One and Two, the George County Center students will transfer to the Perkinston Campus. However, if space at the Perkinston Campus is limited, students will be required to transfer to the Jackson County Campus or the Jefferson Davis Campus. Campus preference will be based on the student's initial enrollment ranking.

The Practical Nursing (PN) program option includes one semester of pre-requisites and three semesters of nursing course work. The curriculum consists of nursing courses included in the first year of the ADN curriculum, as well as, one semester of PN exit courses. The PN program is designed to prepare students to become licensed practical nurses.


LPN-RN
The LPN to RN Mobility track in the Nursing Program is designed to assist qualified Licensed Practical Nurses with the transition to Registered Nurses. LPNs accepted into the Mobility Track are awarded fourteen (14) semester hours of credit for previous nursing education. Enrollment is limited. After successfully completing the summer transition course NUR 1116, Mobility Track students are allowed to by-pass the first year of the required Associate Degree Nursing courses and enter the second year nursing courses. To graduate, Mobility Track students must successfully complete all nine degree required academic support courses, the Transition Course (NUR 1116), and the second year nursing courses; credit for these courses plus the 14 credit hours for previous education equal the required seventy-two (72) semester hours to be awarded an Associate of Applied Science Degree.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing
The B.S.N. program of study consists of 62 credit hours of non-nursing prerequisite courses and 66 credit hours of upper-division nursing courses for a total of 128 credits. The program is available in three sites – Hattiesburg, Gulf Coast and Meridian. The purpose of the baccalaureate program is to prepare the graduate for entry-level positions in a variety of health care services. RN-BSN Online
The RN-B.S.N. program is completely online. Registered nurse* students must complete the same bachelor of science in nursing degree prerequisites as all other degree candidates in the College of Nursing. The University of Southern Mississippi nursing program prerequisites may be taken at The University of Southern Mississippi or at another accredited college or university. For registered nurse students, the NCLEX RN licensure exam will be used to validate previously earned nursing credit. The RN-B.S.N. program of study consists of 30 hours of validation credit hours and 36 hours of upper-division nursing courses in the RN-B.S.N. program, for a total of 128 credits.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Generic Program-for students wishing to obtain an RN licensure and BSN degree. SON faculty and staff conscientiously provide students with excellent and innovative education programs, outstanding scholarship, and Christian commitment through example.


RN-BSN
Registered nurses wishing to pursue a baccalaureate degree in nursing may complete the nursing component within 12 months at William Carey University. In order to meet the needs of the working registered nurse, courses are offered in an online format requiring three on-campus Saturday class meetings per term. The program consists of 66 hours of prerequisite courses and 21 hours of upper division course work. The student will be awarded 33 hours of credit applicable toward the degree requirements for current RN licensure.


Master of Science in Nursing
The degree is offered on both the Hattiesburg and Tradition Campuses. The Fall Admission is on the Hattiesburg campus, and a Spring Admission is offered on the Tradition Campus. Hattiesburg classes are held in the master’s wing of the Fail-Asbury Building. Tradition classes are held at the new Tradition campus located on Highway 67 in Harrison County. The MSN program offered at William Carey University fits the lifestyle of busy nurses. Graduate study may be done on either a full-time or part-time basis. A schedule can be tailored to meet both the curriculum and the student’s needs. The minimum course load for full-time status as a graduate student is six semester hours during a trimester. A student must complete all required work within a period of six years after enrolling in the graduate program.
