Then we'd like to talk with you about our Second Degree BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing), an option for individuals who can dedicate themselves full-time to five semesters of study. Classes are held during the fall and spring semesters (no summers). Second Degree Option students are integrated into the traditional four-year BSN Program. This is not an "accelerated program."

RN-BSN
Application deadline extended to July 15. Applicants who apply after 3/15 will be placed on a waiting list and considered on a space-available basis. Registered nurses who have an associate degree or diploma in nursing can apply for our RN-BSN Option. In addition to completing the UK Core (general education) requirements, the student completes the course work listed in the Sample Plan of Study. Electives may be required to fulfill minimum, in-residence University credit hour requirements. All RN-BSN courses are taught in a distributed learning format (with the exception of pathophysiology, which is totally online). Most classes only meet once each month. Between class meetings you work on assignments that include some online work.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Individuals who complete a bachelor’s nursing degree receive training in areas such as communication, leadership, and critical thinking skills, all of which are becoming more important as nursing practice becomes more complex. Supervised clinical experience is provided in the hospital departments such as pediatrics, psychiatric, maternity, and surgery. In addition to the hospital setting our students receive clinical experience in nursing homes, schools and health departments all leading to a broader knowledge based student nurse. Program has 100% NCLEX passrate for 2011-2012 and full approval status from Kentucky Board of Nursing. Documentation for public access is below as per KBN regulations.

RN-BSN
We are delighted that you have selected WKU to continue your nursing education. The RN to BSN program of study is designed to facilitate registered nurses (RNs) to complete the requirements for the baccalaureate of science nursing degree (BSN). This academic program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) of the American Association of College of Nursing (AACN). Each semester, two (2) cohorts of students will be admitted, a part-time and full-time cohort. When accepted for admission, students must choose which cohort they would like. The students in each of these cohorts will progress through the curriculum as a group and must take courses as noted in planned schedule for the designated cohort. The full-time cohort is reserved for students who have completed all general education and statistics requirements.
