Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Obtaining a post-high school education at Goshen College will involve a four-year commitment (for full-time coursework), and as a nursing student you will graduate with a bachelor of science degree in nursing. An important factor to consider as you select a nursing program is that many entry-level nursing positions now require at least a B.S.N. degree. In fact, recent reports indicate that increasingly employers are most interested in graduates who also have a background in liberal arts education. A liberal arts background prepares a graduate to enter the workplace with good communication skills, decision-making abilities and flexibility. GC is very proud to offer a degree that will prepare you to skillfully and confidently function as an R.N. in a variety of settings.
RN-BSN
The B.S.N. degree-completion track of the Goshen College nursing program allows registered nurses to complete a B.S.N. in about 19 months. The track is designed to affirm personal and professional strengths. Students are actively involved in identifying their strengths and their learning needs. Self-directed study is promoted. Study guides are provided to maximize off-campus study and in-class activities. The collaborative education process makes student experiences and insights a vital part of classroom activities. Each group consists of 10-20 R.N.s who progress through the courses together. Classes meet either on the Goshen College campus or at Elkhart General Hospital one night per week for four hours, and courses vary in length from two to seven weeks. The same night of the week is used for your group throughout the program. Clinical experiences for specified courses will be arranged at other times during the week. There are 13 courses providing 40 credit hours, of which 28 are upper-level nursing credits.
MSN Family Nurse Practitioner
The family nurse practitioner provides primary health care services such as physical exams, diagnosis and treatment of common acute illness, management of chronic health conditions, and ongoing patient education. Bachelor of Science in Nursing
The baccalaureate program offers a creative curriculum for the education of professional nurses competent in meeting the current and future health needs of society. The curriculum prepares graduates to function as practitioners in acute and long-semester care, community settings, home care, and other nontraditional settings, and also provides a foundation for leadership positions and graduate study. The graduate of the B.S.N. program possesses a broad knowledge of the humanities, the biological and social sciences, and nursing. As a beginning practitioner, the graduate applies well-developed problem-solving skills in caring for individuals, families, and communities.
RN-BSN
IU East is convenient and cost-effective. Nursing classes meet one time per week (currently Wednesdays 5-8pm) over the course of four semesters and one summer. Once you begin the program your nursing class time will remain the same as long as you progress in sequence. We require only three clinical courses (management, community health, and capstone) which may be done in your community and in your areas of interest. Clinicals are project based and are not repetitious of previous learning. Upon completion of two transition courses (B304 and B404), all RN to BSN students are given special credit for previous nursing coursework at no cost to the student.
Master of Science in Nursing
IU East is partnering with IU Kokomo to offer a Master of Science in Nursing program with two tracks: nursing education and nursing administration. The program will be offered in a flexible and affordable format right within your community.
