Certified Nursing Assistant
As a certified nursing assistant, you will be on the front lines of patient care. If you enjoy caring for people who are sick or unable to care for themselves, than a career as a certified nursing assistant may be right for you. Your compassion and skill in patient care will help minimize the stress of patients and provide much needed support for registered RN’s. For many, CNA is the first step to becoming an RN. Certified nursing assistants (CNAs), also known as nurses' aides, orderlies, patient care technicians, and home health aides, work under the supervision of a nurse to provide assistance to patients with daily living tasks. As a CNA you will work closely with patients serving their basic care needs such as bathing, grooming and feeding them, assisting nurses with medical equipment, and checking patient vital signs. You will also provide patients with important social and emotional support and report vital information on patient conditions to nurses.
Licensed Vocational Nurse
The licensed vocational nursing program is a twelve-month program offered every year, January through December (including summer session). Current California Certified Nursing Assistants who have completed program prerequisites are eligible to apply. The curriculum is designed to prepare the CNA to become an LVN. Classroom study covers basic nursing concepts and subjects related to patient care, including anatomy, physiology, medical-surgical nursing, pediatrics, obstetrics nursing, pharmacology, nutrition, and first aid. Clinical practice takes place in our labs, local hospitals and medical care facilities. Students must complete the state-mandated hours in classroom and hospital experience in order to be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Vocational Nurses. The Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT) have fully accredited this program. Students accepted into the program must comply with background checks and drug screening required by clinical agencies.
Registered Nurse
The registered nursing (RN) program, fully accredited by the California Board of Registered Nursing, is a two-semester program offered every year starting in the spring semester. The program includes both classroom study and supervised clinical practice. Clinical practice takes place in our labs, local hospitals and medical care facilities. California licensed vocational nurses (LVN) and graduates from accredited vocational nursing programs are eligible to apply upon completion of Allan Hancock College program prerequisites. The LVN-to-RN program is specifically designed to provide the LVN with an opportunity for career advancement and prepares the LVN for the additional responsibilities required of the registered nurse. If accepted into the program, you must comply with background checks and drug screening required by clinical agencies. In addition, the program has a 30-unit certificate option, completion of which qualifies the successful graduate to take the RN licensing examination. If you choose to pursue the 30-unit certificate option you would NOT be a graduate of the Allan Hancock Nursing Program or of the college. Applicants to this curriculum alternative must meet with the Associate Degree of Nursing program director for advisement.

The baccalaureate program offers courses that prepare the student to become a professional nurse. Three distinct categories of students are eligible for admission: The "basic/trimester student" who enters the University without having completed a first level nursing program, the "registered nurse student," who having completed a course of study at the first level, desires further study to expand her or his nursing capabilities to the BSN professional level and the Entry Level MSN student, who having completed a baccalaureate degree in another field, chooses to obtain both a BSN and MSN degree in a period of 36 months.
Master of Science in Nursing
The philosophy of graduate nurse education is that the practice of nursing is constantly changing as health needs and health delivery systems are altered. Integral to nursing is an ability to work effectively and cooperatively with other disciplines and community services to promote health. The focal point in this curriculum is the nursing process with strong components of clinical medical knowledge complemented by behavioral science concepts. Courses are interdependent and have been structured to provide clinical depth in the area of student’s choice. The graduate will have the knowledge and skill to function as an advanced practice nurse in one of several specialty areas. Nursing research skills and the application of nursing theory to practice are major emphases of the curriculum. In an effort to accommodate the busy schedules of nurses, we offer all of our core courses on Tuesday and Thursday to eliminate the need for students to come to campus every day. While it may be possible to schedule all classes on one day, the majority of students will need to come to campus both days as a full-time student.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing
The Mount was the first Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program in the State of California and, since our founding in 1928, we have graduated thousands into the nursing profession. As a Mount student, you’ll be considered for admission to our three-year program after completing a set of prerequisites. We instruct based on the world-renowned Roy Adaptation Model of professional nursing care, where every person is treated as a bio-psycho-social-spiritual being living in a complex world. Mount students understand the cultural, emotional and physical issues facing each patient, and provide them with care that is sensitive and respectful. We are proud that the Roy Model was developed by our former Nursing Chair, Sister Callista Roy, CSJ. Upon graduation, you will have received the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Baccalaureate Essentials and Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) competencies. You’ll be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) examination, and qualify to earn a California Public Health Nursing Certificate. Best of all, your education will include real-world experience working in Los Angeles-area hospitals as part of clinical rotations. You’ll engage with patients and medical professionals on a level you won’t find anywhere else.
Accelerated BSN
The AccBSN program offers the BSN program to students already holding a Bachelor's Degree. The Accelerated Baccalaureate Nursing (AccBSN) Program is the same curriculum design as the Baccalaureate Nursing Program (BSN), follows the stated philosophy, and students meet the terminal objectives as delineated for the Baccalaureate program. The program is within a one year (May to May) time frame and is a vigorous program of study. The Accelerated student completes a three semester course of study, beginning with the first Summer session, followed by a Fall semester, and ending with a final Spring semester. At the completion of the final semester, graduates are eligible to take the Registered Nurse licensure examination and to qualify for the California Public Health Nursing Certificate. The AccBSN program is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing.

Associate's Degree in Nursing
Ventura College offers a two year associate degree in nursing (ADN) through the School of Nursing and Allied Health. Learning opportunities consistent with the requirements of the California Board of Registered Nursing are provided and are based on our program's philosophy and objectives. The Associate Degree Nursing program is approved by the Board of Registered Nursing(BRN). As of May, 2011 the program has gained Candidacy status for initial accreditation by the National League of Nursing (NLN). Accreditation by the NLN is an independent choice by Ventura College and validates that the nursing program meets higher standards of nursing education.
